Rebuilding Cab doors, especially windows!!

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by physiopro, Oct 20, 2013.

  1. Hi all, I am trying to rebuild my front windows and I seem to have accidentally deleted all the photos I took when I took them apart!!!
I seem to remember there was a thread on here somewhere that walked you through the process, I have looked and cant find it, would anybody happen to know the thread or could give me a brief overview please? I have fixed threequarter lights!
    Thanks

    Lock
    winder mech
metal guide for big felt past lock
window on carrier in loose sat on the bottom
    outer scraper/trim and clips
build up 1/4light and fit - push main glass to outside of door to get bottom fixing past, then re-centre as 1/4 light comes upright
    inner scraper
    big felt
    windowcarrier onto winder
    I think that's all. :)

  4. I did a write up with pics years ago when I did mine. I think it's still a sticky on the prototype bay forum. My user name over tgere is saraj

  5. Thank you all for you're input, found some idiot guides on the internet! Just walking home though and reading Zeds reply I have realised I haven't put the upright post in yet! Can I still put that in with the window in or do I need to take the whole lot back out again! :(
Have spent about 3 to 4 hours so far and have only managed to put the main window in outer scraper and inner rubber along the bottom! What a B@&£;ard that is!! Is there a secret to getting those clips in, I started one end and worked my way across!
    Thanks
    Andy

  6. It comes if you persevere. Once you've the knack, they just clip straight in. It's the pointy clips for the main felt that will draw blood...

  7. Sorry to be a hassle but has anybody got a photo of the vertical guide with the felt in it that holds the window in place when you wind it down. I cant see where it goes, can't make head nor tail of it!!

    Thanks Andy

  8. Do you mean the felt one at the rear end of the door, or the front one where it meets the quarterlight?

For the rear one, In bays up to 75 (I think) there was a channel for the felt to slot into but this was omitted on later doors. Mine is a '75 and has one later and one earlier door! o_O The felt as it comes is long enough to go several inches down into the door, which if I remember correctly is fine for the earlier doors as it slots into the channel but on later doors gets all caught up as it has nowhere to go. I cut the felt so it only goes an inch or two below the window line on the later door and it works fine

If you have the metal guides they go in from the bottom. At the top is a tab that slots into a square hole and M6 bolt the bottom. If they're from your old doors and you've replaced them with newer later doors perhaps you won't be able to fit them.

This is one of the bars and it has come out of these doors as they are the same doors but I just can't see where the bottom bolt goes, when I slide them in from the bottom, I presume the tab is at the top and that lines up with a square hole at the bottom of the window frame at the back of the door. But the bottom just seems to be sitting there with no corresponding hole to bolt them in. Just wondering if they where cobbled in before and aren't necessary??

  12. So just looked at just kampers forum thread (thanks eumecon) and as you can see my vertical bars are nothing like it! In fact you have probably already worked out, like I just have that I am trying to fit the old quarter light upright into the guts of my door!!
Thank you all for your wonderful support! I promise I won't harm anybody!!
    Good day :)

The Brazilian style doors have the captive nut & slot for the clip Zed, we are in the process of refitting everything to our doors - we installed them as Gusbus (according to the catalogues) should have them!

  14. That was me!

On later doors I leave the felt channel the same length, I've done quite a lot of doors now and never had a problem :)

  16. I think I just have weird doors o_O, one of the doors you could let the felt hang, but the other I had to cut it as there was a mystery bit of metal which got in the way. Posted about it on here a while back, never got to the bottom of what it was there for though... http://www.thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/cab-door-window-channel.27792/

  18. @physiopro ...did you have to notch out the top of the front 1/4 light rubber for the division bar?
