Rear Tinware- the one that goes over the bell housing

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Marc Mears, Feb 25, 2013.

  1. Well a bit of a disaster this week end – looking at the engine tin ware I noticed that the side bits were missing and after a bit of investigation I find out that there is a section of tin ware that goes around the back of the bell housing (1978) and has the side bits on it – it was never on my engine when I took it off,

So then this morning I tried to find one – so far nothing –and also talking to someone – he tell me you have to take the engine out to fit it – now as my engine is in – that’s a disaster.

Can it be done with the engine in? any help.? Has any one got one I can buy?

thats not a disaster! More of a disaster will be continuing to drive it and having a catastrophic engine failure due to overheating! Ok, that may be a bit melodramatic but I'm sure you get my point!
    Zed's selling one.

I doubt it. Someone with more knowledge will no doubt confirm either way.

  6. Try kingfisher kustoms they do them in fire proof fibre glass may be cheaper might be a struggle with engine in getting bit past the fan housing throttle cable and tube will be a fiddle also said tin clips to bell housing quicker maybe with engine coming out less skin to come of knuckles

  7. They fetch a premium second hand because they are the first bit of tin to rot out on most busses which makes sourcing a good second hand one quite difficult

I dont know if it can be fitted with the engine in place but why not try it and if it does great
If not then the engine has to come out

  8. I have 2 indicator housings if you want em? - new ones

You would struggle to get the piece of tinware past the fanhousing, its very tight down there & part of it interconnects with the oil cooler - its got what looks like an airscoop that fits through the rectangular hole in that tin.
You may be able to pull the engine forward off the input shaft, lower it downwards and fit that way, I dunno, may be do able other than that its an engine out jobbie

  10. Try Megabug or FBI, or any of the used part places. Engine out to fit it, I'm afraid!
