rear tin question

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by rob.e, Feb 25, 2019.

  1. Ok, so on my bus i have some tin that runs along the bottom of the heat exchangers.

At the rearmost part of those there are some holes that look like they should have something attached, and googling images i found some pics that appeared to indicate i was missing the rear tin parts that bridges over the heeat exchanger pipe and come up to meet the firewall. Like this:

I bought a couple of those from @davidoft but there's no way i can get these to fit. My bus already has some tin pieces bolted up to the firewall, but there's definitely somehting not right with what i have, as there appears to be a gap between the lower tin (mounted to the h/ex) and the curved part that comes up to meet the firewall?

Also, what's that access window i have there for? I can't find anything that looks like this in the bentley manual or any pics on line that look like this? Should there be a cover over this (there are a couple of captive nuts there so i'd guess yes?

Those look like the wrong tins , you need to pull them off and put the others on

Ps those look like tins for a carburettor engine, that’s to draw warm air up to prevent icing

  4. ah.. ok makes sense. i'll try that tonight. cheers.

There is a attachment bracket that fits to it to warm up carb on intake ...you could just blank it off as you have twin carbs with sort intake pipes that don't ice up i believe ....or as bad .
