  1. evening all.

how can I tell what rear shoes I have so I can order the right ones?

I've got a 72/73 crossover (manufactured sept 72 registered 73) and I've noticed that there are 2 types for sale 71-72 and 73-79 so which should I order??

wheres your old ones? just get both sets from gsf in portsmouth, they will almost certainly have them on the shelf and take back the one you dont need, you get 30 day no quibble return ;)

Or take a drum off, look at VWH site or a catalogue to compare - they have pictures. Some of these rear set-ups are interchangable if you change the space bar as well and as your bus is 40 years old there's been plenty of time for this to happen.

  5. doh! forgot GSF is just down the road ......how embarasing!! too busy shopping on line!

shoes are off the van so I'll take them down there

    thank guys !!!

  7. My crossover was built March 1972, but had the later rear brake arrangement fitted. I bought 2 or 3 types from VWH (there seemed to be a lot of changes to the rear brakes through 1972) and returned what I didn't need.

Best of British on this one Dale , i had a hell of a game getting the one year only shoe's sorted last year , the garage ended up welding blobs on the end of the shoe for some reason :-

  9. i recently had same prob, could not decide from diagrams so parked up outside GSF ,dropped wheel/hub paid GSF £30 and took out in turn one shoe of each set to compare , it was so close between the last 2 sets it was n"t till i popped the shoe end out the brake cylinder that i got the correct ones, the fun of bay ownership.
