hello all, Just wanted some quick feedback, took bus out first time this week after 9month in storage. Took it easy 30miles spin to work, could smell a little bit of brakes/clutch. On way home Left side rear brake seized giving off strong smell and running hot. Got going again all no repeat of issue but brake still hot compared to others. Before going to strip it down any advice on what to look out for, root cause and prevention? Planning first camping trip this coming weekend just want to make sure we are safe and sound. Cable probably where it enters the backplate. Plenty of penetrating spray on it and ease it free without damaging the backplate and replace cable..........probably!
As others say, rust. Leaving your camper in storage for 9 months is cruel. You should take it out and drive it regularly. I try to aim at a 25 mile round trip at least once a fortnight all year round. Cocooned away and then dragged out without a thorough service and inspection is really lining you up for a bad holiday as the siezed brake is probably not the only horror waiting for you. If you want to store it for a long time you need to at least chock it and leave it with handbrake off to avoid it rusting on. Tyres and CV joints tend to crack if they are left sitting in one position . Regular use keeps them plastic rather than brittle.
Thanks for the feedback all, Will know little more this evening. Handbrake was off and chocked during storage. Had been working aboard not much option on taking it out, but appreciate the advice for next time i go away. Killit
