Rear drop plates, tyres, van height and Garage

  1. Hi, we have a 1979 Danbury Camper that came with dropped spindles and 1 spline drop on the rear. 185x14 rear tyres and 185x65x14 front tyres. It sat with the front down quite a lot which I didn’t like.
During its restoration I’ve fitted rear drop plates from Lime Bug and reset the splines and spring plates to stock. It now sits a lot better, but bugger me, to fit the rear wheels I had to fully deflate the tyres and it was still bloody difficult to get them on!! Only just managed it, not looking forward to get them off again!

Has anybody else fitted these rear drop plates? If so what size tyres did you fit?

Even with the drop plates (and standard 185 tyres) it won’t quite fit through the up and over garage door!!
Does anybody store their van in a standard size garage? If so, what suspension and tyres are you running?

    Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Most people fork out for adjustable (hinged) spring plates for just that reason.
...and adjust their garages to suite the van. Up and over doors don't work well with bays.

  3. My up and over for wouldn't open fully due to an arch facade that stopped the door before if was fully up... So I ended up getting an electric roller shutter door fitted that now goes all the way up and disappears behind the facade.. got loads of room now, but it was an expressive way of doing it

  4. same here, we had a real low garage door height at last house, fitted sectional garage door and dropped bus {too much for fen country roads tbh). Lucky have moved and
rebult garage but still have sectional door, but have raised front up for better ride. [IMG]

  5. What size 14" tyres are you guys running with the rear horseshoe drop plates?
What's the biggest 185/xx/14 width that you can get on and off without deflating them. the standard 185/14 are a real bugger to get on, I have to deflate them!!
    Thanks

We all know somebody with the solution.. Air bags.. lowering the bus for parking in the garage or showing off.. raising the bus for driving..

    Or hinged plates ..
