Rear Bumper Mount

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by motorcycleemptyness, Apr 29, 2020.

  1. Im guessing this is where the rear bumper mounts to ?
Just wondered why the inner valence has no holes in it for access to this ? 20200429_202143.jpg

Yes that is one of the bumper bracket fiixng holes.

The hole is omitted, probably so that you can put the hole in the inner valance so it lines up accurately with the chassis rail captive nut, at the same time as it fits against other panels, which may differ in fit by several mm.

  4. I didn't see any other options ? I did notice it was considerably thinner than the rotted out one i removed which i thought was pretty poor considering it's in the firing line for a rear end shunt....

The fact you cut out a flap in the outer panel and it stayed fixed meant that one was quite good too..

  9. Errrrr... nope.

It was full of filler and rot. I can hook it out of the recycling bin if you want to save it ? ;)

The top edge looks mostly there....
Which you could have hung new metal on ...

But anyway the main point is that you are happy installing a new set of panels that are probably thinner and floppier than the rotten originals were.

I had to re weld my inner and outer rear valance panels together recently after the plug welds along the top cracked out of the thin new metal, after slamming the rear hatch..
