Some of you know I'm going to move onto a boat. I therefore browse some boaty forums. We do moan on about rust, breaking down and similar don't we? broken engines, AA trucks... I signed onto a forum and a totally hippy lady sent me a PM for no reason just wishing me well. I was touched TBH. Her boat just sank in the recent floods. apparently if was pukka inside and out - now it's going to be a write off, it's completely submerged and completely ruined along with all her possessions. Makes you think. Flippin eck - a van's just a van in comparisson. As you were.
ok, call me thick - but i'm serious now, how does a boat sink in a flood? unless it gets hit by a big wave?
moored, flood level rose 8ft, ropes got too tight. she and others were threatened with arrest if they entered the marina. It's a bit of a mystery as the pontoon's supposed to float up with the boat, but it's documented that all wasn't well and the boat was in trouble, yet nobody sorted it. Boat nr Northampton, lady lives in Wales, they didn't get in contact until it was completely sunk.
ah, ok i understand now, my limited knowledge of boats is seeing them moored along the canal by me and i couldn't see them sinking, i get you now in effect the ropes wouldn't let it float any higher.
I was able to watch a new hull for a canal boat being delivered and the boat being lifted into the new hull. All went well until the crane foot sunk into the bank and the boat wedged sideways into the new hull and the whole lot sank into the canal. It was another day to recover the ruined boat and crane
Happens all too often. Easy to get in the poop like that on a flooding river. Moor he wrong end first and bingo!
Stick yer money back into property mate - over la Manche if thats yer thing. Stuff that floats eventually stops floating one way or another!
