Has anyone got any tips to help me revive my Devon interior? You can almost see in the photos it's a bit tired and rough in places. I don't want it to look as new, just have a bit more of a deep shine, warts and all. I'm after a quick fix, nothing fancy like re-veneering! I was planning on sanding back and re-varnishing but it's like an oak veneer and the water based varnish I have doesn't really do anything. Rubbish!
Anyone? Is this stuff likely to be the proper treacley varnish stuff rather than the milky water based rubbish? http://www.diy.com/nav/decor/paint-...-Outdoor-Varnish-Clear-10299599?skuId=9261367 I plan to sand with the grain 120-grit, clean up, then shove a few coats of the varnish on.
It's likely to be more than a wood stain, yes. Whichever one you do use apply in thin coats (like when painting) or you will get drips / runs.
I would suggest a light sanding, clean with a damp cloth thoroughly and then use a wood flooring varnish. 2 coats should be plenty with that stuff as its very hard-wearing. Thats what I did. Top tip - get all of your materials and varnish in advance and do it all on a nice hot day - will be dry in no time.
