Re-fitting engine. Wire question.

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Carryoncampers, Sep 10, 2015.

  1. Hello. When I removed the engine I did label the wires honest. At least one label has fallen off!
I have one set of wires of which a socket goes to the top of the alternator. (1600). Then there are 2 single wires. The black one is still labelled coil positive. The other one, a light colour (I'm colour blind which is really helpful with wiring) maybe cream, reaches to the coil but no label! Any ideas? Negative I'd guess...?
    Thanks!

    Got a picture?

  3. From memory the side of your Solex I think.

  4. Thanks both. I'll try and sort a picture later.
It has dells, so no wire to them.
The wire has a spade connection which on my set up means it only goes to the coil.
(I've already connected the only other spade that doesn't go to the cool which is the oil pressure sender.)

You would have a thick black wire for coil plus and a thin green from the distributor for coil minus.

For colourblindness - One idea that yachties use is to have a piece of red tinted clear plastic and a piece of green tinted clear plastic. You look at things through each in turn. A green thing is light in the green one and dark in the red one and vice versa. You can buy them in holders with a neck strap

. Might help with wiring but I have in the past made big flashbangs swapping a dirty grey and a dirty green wire over, even with normal colour vision.
