Pedant Alert!!.......You mean Dobro Lofty? Bit of useless knowledge for you...Dobro comes from the Dopyera Brothers who started their own resonator firm in competition with National. We tend to think Dobro as a wooden bodied guitar with National producing the metal, harsher sounding, resonator. I'd love a Dobro......
Funnily enough I've started playing my son's uke this very week. It's been sitting unused under his bed as a very ambitious 1st birthday present from a mate (my boy is now almost six). I downloaded a guitar tuning app to finally get it to sound nice and have since been learning the tune we had played at our wedding in NZ. The fingertips on my left hand hurt quite a bit.
I posted this a couple of years ago on a post about 'Best Covers' - I still really like how happy they both are:
I play Uke. I have been for probably 6 or 7 years now, but i'm not having any of this George Formby lark. He mostly played a Banjolele which is not the same thing. Anyway, my personal preference is an electric uke, and I own and run the website http://ukeland.co.uk otherwise known as 'Electric Ukulele Land'. As far as camping with one goes, when I got my camper, I was given a 'bus warming present' by a friend, which was actually a little acoustic uke in the same colour as my van I have seen James Hill (his video in this thread somewhere) and many others at the ukulele festival of great britain, which is a great little festival.
