Rag top pop top? would that even work?

  1. I have a devon pop top, and contemplated swapping for a big ragtop a few months ago, decided against in the end.

but was thinking.. would it be possible to put a ragtop inside the inner bit of an early devon pop top? so it lifts up then opens up? im not planning on doing it but just thought that would be pretty bloody awesome. has it ever been done?

  2. Honestly if it was me erm no! See my guide on restoring early devon roof! The metalwork is required to keep it all together, even if you remove the metal roof in the middle ( if thats what you mean?) the outer rim is not stable enough to maintain the spring loaded pressure from the hinges.
Plus leaks, you are just making it easier.
By all means everything is possible if you work on it. Just replace the aluminium centre section with maybe perspec if you want a light airy feel? But use large rivets and keep it strong

  3. ahh yeah didnt think of the structual side of it.
haha yeah it would have to be a dry-day only van. A big perspex sheet with a nicely painted frame would look pretty awesome.

I'm not sure but if its a webasto type roof you're thinking off I am sure that company could assist.

I like your idea. If the actual opening on the Westfalia wasn't so small I'd consider it myself. Instead I've been thinking about a see-through top.

  5. Or you could maybe put 2x modern side lifting roof vents to let the air in? There is always something just ensure its strong enough to hold the roof structure. Good luck have a think everything is possible.
