hi, currently feeding new one piece pushrods into type 4 bay. Any tips on how to force them home? Tried twisting and pushing by hand but can’t get the last 4mm in no matter how I try.

Anyone advise persuasion with wooden block etc

    Cheers

I think you’ve mentioned ‘one piece’ pushrod tubes before – all type 4 pushrod tubes are one piece, are you sure you’ve got the right ones? What was wrong with the original tubes?

And what do you mean by the last 4mm, how far are you trying to push them in?

It should be easy to fit the new tubes, make sure all traces of any sealant are removed, clean off any burrs in the head and crankcase, use oil or rubber grease, not sealant, on the O-rings and push the tubes in, it may be necessary gently tap them but be careful not to pinch an O-ring. If you do it will leak.

Thanks, old ones were none original and also a mix. New ones are from Megabug and look identical in dimensions, but all my strength, twisting and pushing cannot get them home.

Got to the point where there is no wobble but I know they are not on far enough as I can still see the black rubber seal at the block end.

Yes, definitely the correct ones, I understand now that the two piece ones are for earlier engines. It was just that I saw s video with them and liked the look of them

    Ideas , appreciated

  4. I found the rounded top end of a broomstick was the ideal size for tapping them home. The wide end of the tube with the larger o ring is at the head end, though I guess that’s obvious.

I’ve had a try at this, did it need a bit of welly? Hammer and broomstick?

  6. A mild bit of mallet should do it, if you’ve lubed up the O ring first.
How did you get the old ones out? I use pipe grips, and you could try these to get them back in with a bit of twisting.

Barry Haynes I dance in leopard skin mankini’s

Put a bit of oil on the new rubbers then get a socket the size of the push rod, push the push rod as far as you can by hand then tap the push rod fully home using the socket and extension bar

Wow, that was a bit of a session. All the old tubes with new seals went in with broom handle help. New ones just would not go in, the Mrs pushing with broom handle and me giving 10/10 effort with moles grips. Just shows you the importance of part quality.

Thanks to all your help, i think I took learning from all your posts to get job done.
