prototype CA gearbox into 73 latebay

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by EggBoxes, Dec 4, 2012.

  1. Can a late bay gearbox be replaced with an earlybay CA gearbox, as the prototype box doesn't have the
two fixing supporting holes at the top.

I assuming yes, but will it be OK long term or should I swap the inners of the earlybay into the late bay casing ?

    Thanks

  3. Late Bay replaced with an prototype bay gearbox - don't know where "prototype" came from - spelling corrector!

    Yes is the answer.
But if you want to keep your clutch, transfer your late bell housing onto the early box. This will also allow you to hang it up. Easy nuts and bolts + a cheap gasket.
I have early CA box with T4 bell housing in prototype bay with T1 engine, wasserbboxer crank, 2L flywheel and clutch. I have Late T4 nose cone fitted to it as well as it had roller bearings for the hockey stick. You'll be surprised how easily all these gearbox bits interchange.
