Prostatitis - anyone had it?

Dr reckons I have prostatitis but 2 urine tests are negative. I have had a course of antibiotics but still the same

I basically can't stop going to the toilet (peeing), like every 20 mins I feel I need to go, much much worse at night with the feeling of a swollen bladder. Been tested for Diabetes but that's negative too.
This has been going on for about 2 months now. Off to see Dr again Wednesday.

Anyone had this that can shed some light.

I know a couple of people who have had it. Symptoms can last a few months - antibiotics may help but it's a bit unclear if they really do. I would imagine a referral to a urologist will be next - prostate check and maybe flow rate.

 

I had this in the past on a few occasions. My GP said it is very common and told me the prostate can get infected or enlarged and irritate the bladder.

I tried the antibiotics but no improvement. I went to the STI clinic for a check for chlamydia and others, all negative. Also ask your GP about the PSI prostate cancer test. I went for a bladder ultra sound scan, negative.

I was peeing a lot and drinking a lot. It turned out to be Diabetes. That was 20 years ago. Testing for diabetes is not a one off test. Get your GP to test your blood and urine for glucose level.

Your GP can check out your prostate with the finger up the bottom method. Don't be alarmed by that, its a standard check.

Age brings on enlargement of the prostate and pushes on the bladder causing frequency and urgency (which I have now) and getting up in the night.

Persevere and you will find out the cause.

Reading up on it, Dr are unsure how a man gets this and your right, Dr said even a 2 week course of antibiotics might/might not sort it.

I have had 2 urine tests and a fasting blood test for Diabetes. Negative. Gonna ask Dr about this in more detail.

I reckon I will be sent off for the tests you mention and to be honest, I'll do whatever test is needed to find out an answer.

It the shooting pain in the penis that gets me, I then jump up and go to the loo.

I'm 38, what am I gonna be like at 58 :/
