Propex thermostat cable extension?

I’m getting the wiring sorted for the propex and working out where I want the thermostat. Ideally it’s going towards the rear of the van on the rear cubby unit (easy reach from the bed!), however the cable is about 30cm short (the propex unit is under the front seat so has to run behind the units along the side).

If I made a short extension cable up am I likely to cause any issues for myself(propex site yielded no results)? I’m thinking in terms of voltage drop etc? I might be worrying unnecessarily but a second option never hurt.

  2. I would say you will be ok. Is it just the 2 core cable you are extending to the plug in the picture?
I would use cable of the same size. Best joining method is to solder the extension cable to the original & use heat shrink tubing to insulate the joints.

This is the 6 core cable that runs to the thermostat, not the 2 core power cable.

  4. Propex are really helpful. I would give them a ring and they may even send you a longer cable.

  5. This ^^^^
I had a similar problem with an older Propex so only 3 wires but was reassured by the office that renewing the whole loom with a similar 3 core cable would be fine .

Have a chat, they really are helpful...

  7. It'll be fine. 1mm2 or 1.5mm2 should be ok - it's just thermostat wiring.

Or do like the bloke who wired my old Eberspächer up - use grubby old mains cable and plenty of terminal blocks with insulating tape wrapped around them

Pretty sure the last 10cm of my starter cable used to be like that too!

  14. As others have said. Give Propex a call. Ive never had anything but fantastic service from them. Either extend the cables yourself or get them to supply you with a new loom. What model. Propex is it (being nosey)

  15. not sure I can work out where your fitting it there?

I emailed propex and they’re going to make me up a short extension cable. Saves me making one.
