I have grown over time to take a liking to watching programmes based on real events (I appreciate that some poetic license is put into them). Such films as; Hidden Figures The imitation Game The Impossible Unbroken Sully 12yrs a Slave Kinky boots The Theory of Everything Schindlers List Finding Neverland Eddy the Eagle The Kings Speech In the Heart of the Sea Hacksaw Ridge Also documentaries such as; The Central Park 5 Making a Murderer (I’m still not sure Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey are guilty) Three Identical Strangers What documentaries/films based on true events have you watched/enjoyed that have sparked debate as a result of watching them?
Elf. It’s vivid portrayal, relevant to this time of year, of one of the component parts of the big commercial machine that is Xmas is thought provoking.
I can honestly say that I find that one of the most irritating films I have ever had to endure watching.
I’m with you on this. I like Will Ferrell, and people kept saying, oh you must watch Elf....well I did and I thought it was t0ss
I think it taps in to the geo economic zeitgeist if it’s time, and is still relevant in today’s troubled times.....it truly is a cross generation clarion call for us all.
Black Mirror, plenty of talking points on how technology and social media draws us into such blinkered and competitive mindsets. ...
I, Daniel Blake is a worthy entry into this list. Das Boot very insightful and we should not forget the long running analysis of behaviour...... Star Trek
Back on topic, couple of films I enjoyed, seen most of the ones you mentioned and a few to add to the list. Pursuit of happyness First they killed my father Rush Green Book
