Pre heat jacket thingy

  1. Hi, before I pull the inlet manifold off and either put a cleaned out one on or soda blast my own, I thought i'd try one of those jacket thingies that run off 12V.
Are they any good and where do I get one from please? Bus suffers from terrible icing I can actually put my hand on one side of the inlet manifold when the engine is warmed up and it's cold as a cold thing.
    1600 single port, single carb.

Spend the money on a stock air cleaner that sucks hot air from the No2 cylinder head. Much more heat available (kilowatts) there than you will ever get from the IMDU 50 watt toys.
Try Megabug or FBI VW for air cleaners.

  3. I've got a stock air cleaner on. The pre heat pipe is blocked.

  4. Taking the manifold off and cleaning it out is your best option.

  5. Get your hot air feed in the airbox working. The jacket things are truly useless.

  6. How do I check it is or isn't working? Everything is bog stock. Thought the overcoat would be a cheap option o_O

    1. Stove pipe from cylinder head to air hose under rear apron tinware.
    2. Air hose from stovepipe to hot air inlet on air cleaner
    3. Vacuum hose from inlet manifold to thermo valve in air cleaner .
    4. Vacuum hose from thermo valve to flap actuator on air cleaner.

Then you will get lovely warm air into the carb at idle and just off idle but not with your foot down hard.
Its brilliant. And stock. If your air cleaner is missing parts it may be easier and cheaper
to find another with all the parts.
By the way I believe a close relative of an IMDU is a 12 volt Mothercare milk feed bottle warmer...

And make sure you are running an SVDA distributor too.
