hi all, my sealy mig welder is now about 8 years old and starting to fail and needs new parts ect it needs a new tourch and line, the feed is not feeding right as it slows and speeds up all the time. and its driving me mad not being able to get a good weld. so instead of spending money on it im thinking about getting a new welder and ive been looking at the portamig. i was wondering if people have used this welder and had any good/ bad comments about it. or have any other suggestions for a good welder many thanks tom
I guess it depends how much money you want to spend and what model the sealey is. It sounds like it perhaps needs a new liner and a bit of a torch overhaul. A portamig would be my choice if i was going to buy a new welder. I think exuptoy has one and i think he's really pleased with it.
Cheers andy. I do have a Portamig and I have been repairing my bus for a while and whilst I could weld with my old sets, I always thought the problem with my welds was me. I got hte 185 (list price £588 from Steve at Weldequip) and I have to be honest. it is a revelation!!!!! Down to 15amps for bodywork and up to 185! Perfect for what I need. My welding has improved no end.I realise my welding would improve with time anyway but this has made it easy! If it were my money I would buy one tomorrow and if anything happened to mine I would get another straight away!
exuptoy cheers for the info, them weld look good/nice and strong, the amount of welding i have still got to do on my resto im just thinking that the welder will pay for itself in the long run as i know how much welders charge, also i could sell my welder for spars or repairs and get some money back not much tho, might give them a ring and see what they say at weld equip
