does any one know what way is best to wire this radio to my leisure battery as im not sure ,thanks in advance
Ken I'm about to my own unit and will be wiring the permanent live and switched live together to the leisure fuse box. I have seen a post from someone that put a switch in line so that they could run off leisure battery or a switched live.
i only want it to leisure bat but will lights and clock stay on permanent ,if i wire through a switch and turn of then i think the clock will need re-setting
Do you have a fuse box for your LB? I've got 2 fuse boxes for my LB one under the R&R bed and then a feed from that into the cab where I have another small fuse box for my stereo( permanent live for camping use) and some aux led lights.
Yep clock will need resetting. I'm going straight to fuse box with no switch. Will only need to reset if I take out battery.
all head units are the same to wire up these days ken, you'll have a red and yellow, 1 is permanent live for the station memory, one is ignition live for the actual radio - and so you can't leave it on, you need to join these together and wire them direct to the leisure via fuse/fusebox then don't forget to turn it off...... or wire the two lives seperate to the leisure but put a switch somewhere close to where you think you'll use the radio most that breaks the ignition live feed - this could be near the bed so you can have the radio on in bed then click it off when you start nodding off.
dont want switch but if its permanent live it can only drain my leisure what is not a problem but i am worried that the new stereos stay alight when you turn off, cant realy explain what i mean but looking at the wires i shall use only permanent live and ignition live both to leisure battery through my fuse board is that correct, and connect earth and the speakers and done?
Sounds right ken. I think you are concerned about a current drain even when off. There will be something as the clock and stations have to have their memory but the current will be minimal.
Not sure about your stereo but mine has a tiny red light which stays on when the unit is switched off. This obviously goes off when I remove the front plate. The stereo is permanent live and my LB has never ran down in the last year. I think the draw from it when switched off will be minute.
from what i've read the screen ones are hit and miss - try and see but be prepared to invest in a quite expensive replacement - i think we had a thread a few weeks ago discussing dab arieals?
Advice from halfords was top left corner. I think was assuming rhd so I will likely go top right corner as Kermt is lhd. Then run cable down a pillar.
Hi Ken... I've just bought a new Sony unit and will be joining the red and yellow wires together so I can use it with the ignition off, and the instructions helpfully point out that you can change the 'auto off' settings from a few seconds to a few minutes, so the unit switches off all the lights etc but retains the clock and channel memory. I assume yours would have a similar function?
