we had cornish pasty in the office cafe t'other day - I was standing behind a lass in the queue who was discussing them with another lass - the conversation went along these lines: lass 1: oh look they have those special pies, i think they are pies, they are kind of oval shaped with crinkles along the top and and nipped at each end, I think they are pies, are they pies, I don't really know lass 2: they are called cornish pasties
Are these found in a particular geographical area? Like the idea but not aware of seeing such a thing down here..
My Dads Uncle was head baker at Hollands Pies in Baxenden (Lancashire) and won many a pie making competition in his time. When we were kids my dad (who also worked there in his youth) would visit on his way home and turn up with whole trays full of them. Meat and Potatoe was my favourite (wasnt a vegetable as a nipper!). They tasted soooo good - hot from the factory. Not a pie as such but Steak Pudding Chips and Mushy Peas - If that dont turn you on then yer not northern!
