Petrol use by date

  1. I have had my tank drained since November and have 20 litres of fuel in Jerry cans. Do you all reckon it will be OK to put back in or is it disposal time?

  2. If it's only since November it should be OK. I've had fuel in the tank all winter while the van's been SORNed and it's been OK in the spring.

  3. i wouldn't use it all in one go i would stick 5 litres in with every fill up

we take our camper off the road for the winter and find it's a bugger to start on old fuel and seems to lack power, a fill up later and it's running sweet as a nut

  4. i had about 2 gallons left in my tank when i sorned 537 days ago, it started up and went through an MOT on it!!!!

  5. I filled mine before I took it off the road in October, the use by date on the receipt said Feb, but I chanced my arm and it fired up ok in March and again three times the following week.

  6. Cheers guys. I will put it in and then put in some fresh. tooooo expansive to waste.

  7. I had some 18 months old in my boat, the big Honda ran fine on it, instant start but the little merc wouldn't run at all, both new engines. I think it's a bit hit and miss

  8. If your tank is completely dry use only fresh fuel to get it going - that way you can be sure any problems are not fuel quality related.
Once you're up an running, as suggested use 5 litres of old and top the tank off with new. That way you'll use the old stuff up in 4 tankfulls.

  9. THat is good advice.

  10. Fired up my old bike yesterday, fuel in there since October due to a bit of over winter maintenance. Fired second turn. Never had trouble with fuel left for 6 months over winter.

Since they took the lead out, petrol doesn't keep like it used to....

I think it's utterly selfish of the boffins to make my starting my mower after winter a real pain.....I mean, how much harm could something as inauspicious as lead do? I mean, how much harm could something as inauspicious as lead do? I mean, how much harm could something as inauspicious as lead do? I mean, oh, er what do I mean again?

    What's a mower?
