It's mad. I was there last year. The roads are terrifying but away from the airport it's quite lovely. Guaranteed weather, very cheap. There's dodgy places but there is nearly everywhere. And Machu Picchu of course...couldn't get there while I was there due to restrictions. There's a Makro there!
Peru is excellent. was in lima and cusco for a few days in 2003. you do need to be pretty fir as altitude causes tiredness very quickly. i went with kumuka overlanding in S. america for a month an dhr Peru part was probably the most difficult to do. If possible get to Machu Pichu and you can do a three day trek there or CHEAT and catch a train. if there ar any helth issues defo get the train. Lima is quality to and was very cheap. Plenty of t2's there to have a look at too.
