I’ve bought a pulley off @Lasty that apparently was of the type that was fitted to 1600 type one engines in a bus. It’s of a larger diameter to increase fan speed. Well it arrived today and lo and behold my current pulley is smaller so must be from a bug which makes sense as it had a bug engine when I bought my van. I’d driven that engine round for years with no idea. Cheers lasty I’m sure when I build my engine it will appreciate the extra cooling.
I have been doing a bit of research on the pulleys There is loads of hearsay and confusing information about them it appears that they were only fitted to some buses in certain areas and for a short time and was superseded by the velocity ring
Cheers for the input matty I’ve got a velocity ring on my fan shroud so combined with the pulley i should hopefully have muchos air. I thought the vortex ring was only fitted to fuel injection bugs
I think you can make more difference with the length of the fan belt anyway... but... I had to search out a smaller one as I couldn't get a belt on past the full flow oil line fitting without taking the pulley partly off. Even then it was a squeeze. Did Rob full flow yours?
I’ve cut up and partially de seamed the heater y piece I got from @iblaze at techenders It will be collected tomorrow with a few other bits by a fella that’s going to weld them up for me.
I’m hoping that I can just join it up to the heat exchangers with two lengths of silicone hose It should squeeze between the torsion tube and the floor ok.
I’ve fitted a set of repro headlights The quality is poor so I may remove them at some point and fit the glass and lens to the original light steel frames.
The vans been out in the sun and turned round It’s now staying outside the tent so I can remove the pop top and paint the roof and the pop top can get prepped and painted in the tent. It should be a bit easier going now with a bit more room around it.
Few bits have been repaired And the cut down heater y piece has been welded and fettled so I can slide a hose over the inlets.
That’s the inside of one cab door painted. I’ve also stripped down the sliding door of everything so I can prep it ready for welding where the structural glue didn’t hold and found unlovely orange bubbly I’m tempted to follow in @Lasty footsteps and buy a dry state import microbus door to replace my panel van one.
I`ve always been an advocate of "making the best of what you`ve got` but the panel van slider is a real lash up where the window is cut out so if you can find a good factory microbus one for reasonable money it`s a no brainer . That said , even if you used the one you have it`ll move things along so probably worth living with it until a better door comes along at the right money ?? I paid a paltry £120 for a good rust free example from a bloke on here having a clear out when he sold his van . I was just very lucky !! Stick at it mate - looking good
