Stock pulley. Stock Optibelt fan belt. Stock alt pulley with 10 shims. There, that’s sorted for you. What is the problem? As @Lasty says, a half-hour cruise round the block will tell you more than any amount of theorising.
I did try to be close so it wasn't meaningless. I think it's good to knock things off the list rather than leaving them up in the air. If it's still getting too hot, it's not the fan turning too slowly.
Refurbed engine from Mr Parry ... Overheating on long motorway runs , sitting at 55ish it would get up to 120*+ after 20 minutes - even sooner if the air temp was above 20 degrees . Around town it would get up to 100* - something was amiss ... Solution was a combination of a few things .. I changed the fan housing for one with a velocity ring . The flaps were fitted but tie-wrapped open without a stat so sorted out the flapp-age spring and a good thermostat - all good now . Possibly an air leak although spraying brake cleaner around didn't reveal anything . I rebuilt the intake side with a smear of Hylomar and noticed the carb had a slight side to side movement so popped in an extra base gasket. Bearing in mind that I've had nowhere to drop the engine or even work on it really for 5 years otherwise it'd have looked at it sooner .... Proper EUREKA moment when I first drove it in plus 25 degrees + air temperature and it didn't get above 100* on the oil guage , prior to that it'd hit 120* within a few miles sitting at 60 . Had a bit of a runaround last month, covered about 1400 miles and it sat easily at 60 and 100* . Only saw 110* once and that was on the A66 - a long hard 20 mile uphill drag over the Pennines from Penrith ... I'd call that a result Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
One i had kicking around - i`m not proud ... The engine has never had a stat fitted which i was quite happy about , I decided to fit one as since moving South as i`m using the van more over the `winter` - it works well and heats up quicker settling down to 80*ish around town. Much better
We have liftoff… …just 10 months later than I anticipated. The jack & stands will go 6cm higher, but i’ll have a rummage round at this height for starters. Hoping i’ll only have it like this for a couple of weeks. I’ve been experimenting with Bilt Hamber Deox-Gel, which might make all the difference to everything except the crossmembers.
