  1. What would you use or have you used? I was told about rustoleum but it's very expensive would hammerite be ok or does anybody know of anything else that's decent
    Cheers

  2. Hammerite smooth or (Smoothrite) gives a nice finish when applied with a small gloss roller.

  4. Suppose it depends on what colour you are after Ron? Better selection of colours with Rustoleum but I guess that's reflected in the price. I did the whole of my cargo floor and rear deck with a 2.5 litre tin probably only used 1.5 litres. It goes a long way if you thin it( which you will need to do).

  5. I didn't realise you had to thin it mate if you managed it with 1.5 litres that may have changed my mind, i couldn't remember what you said about it I have found somebody selling it on e bay for cheaper but he doesn't have it in yellow I may go for a different colour I have read some good reports and there is somebody who repainted the outside of there car in rustoleum and it was excellent it looked like it had had a top spray job I may just have to bite the bullet if I want it to look decent!

  6. any epoxy based paint is great for the inside of a bus...but the finish depends on preparation and how you apply it. I basically tanked mine with an epoxy primer and then top coated in poly and lacquer....looks good...not pro, but then again, I'm not a pro sprayer.
check out Leighs Paints in Bolton....they do all sorts of top quality paints much cheaper than Branded names....very helpful if you talk to them. Think the stuff i used was called Epigrip...

  7. What's the grey mushroom vw internal colour called ?

Do you have to thin it out and if so what with white spirit?

Once you get all the rust away, sand down etc. what should you wipe the panel down with?

  10. White spirit is fine for wiping down and thinning it out

How much do you thin it down by?

  12. It depends on how your applying it and air temperature etc

Though I could have a electric heater on in the van for a couple of hours

  15. Just thin it a touch then you want the consitincy of milk
dont try and get it all perfect in the first coat just a general covering
Then when its fully dry which could take a few days in winter
Key the first coat up with some 400 grit and apply the second coat

Its very good at self leveling so once you have finished the second coat the finish may look a little poor but by the time it has dried and fully cured it will look a lot better

Id say buy a tin and have a practice on a small area first to get a feel for the paint

I used Rustoleum - as @paradox says it's easy to work with and good value for money - takes a while to dry though, thin coats for the win.

  18. Rustoleam sounds the way to go i think its about £40 a tin but if thats the best finish its what i need i was going to sand the whole of the inside down and slap the paint on @chrisgooner said he used a small roller as well i saw it in the back of his van and it looked excellent great coverage!

  19. Thank you paradox thats cheaper than i have seen it anywhere else:thumbsup:
