Paint tin lid. Surely not?

  1. I managed to get some good hours working on the van today. Had plenty of jobs in mind and got a a lot done too. One of my tasks was to change the petrol filler rubber hoses. The engine is already out and I had to remove the petrol tank to fit the eber amongst other things. I didn't realise the paint tin lid cover till i'd finished replacing all pipes but I popped it of anyway to have a look anyway. Am I right in thinking that this cover is to make changing the pipes with the engine and petrol tank possible? If so, your having a laugh ain't ya? I couldn't get my arm anywhere near the filler pipe and I was sat in the engines bay? Surely there is another function for it and I like to know what?

  2. Apparently its a structural part and if removed will call your roof to fall off (or something like that!

  3. Taking it out doesn't make life any easier, unless you've got arms like Gollum...

If you take it off, your trousers will fall down.

  4. Wot your calling a paint tin lid, is a removable oil drip tray as all vws leak so they thought it would be good place to store it near the engine:D:lol:

I've replaced mine with a built in fish tank - much more useful and something to look at while changing the plugs:thumbsup:

It was added for the Californian beach bums who had forgotten their frisbee. And also for those traveling on their own who insist on having their gin and tonic on a tray.
