Paint problem on rear (engine) hatch hinges

  1. Sorry, no photo, but I'm sure you'll know the bit I'm talking about. It's the hinge bit on the engine lid / the boot / the panel which the number plate's fixed to. It's where the hinge fits into the cylindrical holding bit fixed to the main body. Mine is metal on metal. Is this normal? So, every time you open the engine hatch, it takes some more paint off the hinge, which is now going rusty as a result. Yes, it's a tiny area. But it bugs me. Is there a small part, maybe made out of rubber, or a washer or something, which can be fitted to the hinge to stop this problem?

  2. Regular oiling. Maybe some thin walled tubing, but I imagine that would trap water

  3. Oiling. It is just metal.
