original washer wiper switch, easy to fix?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by louigi_cornetto, May 26, 2013.

  1. I've got a dripping steering column on my 1974 1600 bay, so I guess either the washer pipes have given up or the switch itself.
How easy is to get in to the switch from the steering column and is it possible to repair if it's not the pipes leaking?

I've de-pressurised the bottle but not stripped anything back yet, but from a nosey at the VW vendors I'm not finding a replacement switch.

    Any advice appreciated

  2. If you've got a column switch, easy enough to fix. i'd say it's likely to be the hose connections rather than the switch. Steering wheel off (hassle if it's on a taper), undo a few screws above the two column switches, pull the connector off the bottom of the switch, then pull it out. I've seen replacement water valves on sale.

  3. It will most probably be the ends of the pipe perished
