Right guys, I have been looking to buy one of these little beauties for a little while now but when you combine the cost of the sensor, shipping and import tax it works out to be quite a pricey bit of kit. Until now!!!! I have spoken to the suppliers and they have offered me a staggering 50% off if I buy 20 or more units. I do not mind distributing these once they come in to the country and all I would ask is the you cover the postage and packing once in the UK.

    The good bit.

    1 x Type 1 sensor will cost you $17.50
    Postage $2.90
    Import duty $2.50

    Total $22.90 + uk postage, thats £13.69+vat (£16.43) + uk postage

    1 x Type 4 sensor will cost you $22.50
    Postage $2.90
    Import duty $2.5

    Total $27.90 + uk postage, thats £16.68+vat (£20.02) + uk postage.

(Import duty is a guesstimate from the supplier and may vary)

How I would expect this works. I will start a list that will close at 12pm 28th February. I will then contact everyone on the list for the initial payment. Once I have received all the monies I will then place the order. Once they are in the country I will then contact people for the balance of the uk postage and any outstanding import duty. (If the import duty is less then I will discount the difference on the uk postage).

    List

    icepug: type 1 x 2
    sharpey: type 1 x 1 type 4 x 1
    ian and cathy type 4 x 1
    Razzyh type x 1
Wolf in da hudd type 1 x 1

You'll need to add VAT too on both the purchase and shipping price.
Don't these trigger at too low a temperature for a bus?

  3. I don't believe there is tax to be added but I will ask. As for the temperature being too low, its an early warning trigger so as long as it makes you aware and gives you time to slow down. Besides, surely the oils in a beetle or a bus breaks down at the same temperature?

  4. Bargainous! the OG pressure switch triggers at somewhwere between 2 and 4 psi (unless I'm mistaken), bywhich time the damage will be done I would've thought (VW obviously didn't so I may well be wrong)....Hot Oil warning is probably more useful:thumbsup:

I read something from @snotty in the last week or so saying that a type 1 will regularly run hotter than the temperature these trigger at. (107deg C I believe)
Unless there's a certain (very low) threshold, all imports from outside the UK are subject to VAT on purchase and shipping price. Parcel Force will also hit you with a £20 "handling charge'.

You need to change the £ sign for dollars on the type four price.
I'm up for one of these depending on what the final price comes in at. Stick me down for one.

  7. Worth a punt at that price.

    Put me down for a type 1 & a type 4

  8. I have amended the listing to show VAT added our end and the people who are interested!!! :)

  9. I would also like to add that these are adjustable.

Yup, I've just had a proper read and they look even more useful than before. I went through the buying phase to work out how much they would cost direct from them. Total is 69 dollars which is £41.23 in real money so you may have bagged us a real bargain @icepug

  13. Stick me down for one for type 4.
    Thanks

  14. Hopefully, these'll be adjustable, otherwise on a motorway cruise in a bus, I can imaging the oil light being on all the time.

  15. I will ask the supplier tomorrow if he has any experience with this. He's been selling them for 30-40 years so he should know.

I suppose that depends on how hot you wanted your oil to get when you're on the motorway before you want to know about it. Too hot is too hot and needs to be dealt with somehow, even if that means slowing down a few MPH for a few miles.

  17. The description says the light flickers when it nearly too hot and stays on when it is too hot. I still would have thought too hot is too hot, in a bus or a bathtub?!?

Having learned that running too lean will make the engine run much hotter I think something that will warn me is a great idea. Especially as I know from personal experience how expensive a full rebuilds is.

I would appreciate the input from @zed @Paul Weeding and some of the other clever engine people.

  19. ^ second that!!!

OK. I wouldn't have one. Or rather I'd prefer something else. A flickering oil light would drive me nuts.

Get an oil pressure guage. Oil looses pressure when it's hot so pressure guage shows pressure and also when too hot. No need for "How hot is too hot" debate then. But better than that pressure guage shows you when your engine blows a filter seal and dumps the lot in 100 yards so you can stop before the last bit is lost and the oil light comes on. Yep, that's me - wasn't looking at guage but surpising how it catches your eye when it moves so rapidly downwards. I have temp and pressure, but temp just follows the pressure guage in reverse. The only thing it has taught me is that I need to thrash the tits off it to get it hot, if I drive at 50 it barely gets off the bottom so I've blocked my extra oil cooler 90% of the time.
