oil leak from front of gearbox

  1. Following my gearbox recently being replaced for a second hand box I am getting an oilk leak from the very front (nosecone?) of the gearbox - the oil appears to be coming through the bearing which the gear selector rod goes in to - the bearing is visible, there is no rubber boot or anything covering it - not sure if this is correct?

Is this anything to be concerned about?

The seal looks to be higher than the gearbox level plug, so can't understand how oil is getting upwards?

    thanks,

Oil gets everywhere or it'll wear out. There should be a seal - the usual suspects all sell them.

  3. thanks Zed - is it just a case of undoing the small square rear coupling bolt, sliding the selector rod forward off the shaft that comes out of the gearbox, pushing on the seal and then putting the coupling back?

Yes. You're lucky you don't have to hoik the old one out not the box is fitted.
Some gearboxes seem to have bushes and some bearings on the selector shaft. Not sure which have which, but I stuck a bearing'd 1800 nosecone on my 1600 box.
