I am changing the oil in an upright engine this week, I have all sorts of funnels and hoses but I always struggle and end up spilling some, its no problem in me 2L. Has anyone a link to the ideal filling thing??

  2. Decant the engine oil into an empty gearbox oil container with a flexi spout and use that mate.

I use an old fashion 1 pint oil can with a sort of ‘funnel spout’ on it.
As the can is emptying you can sort of twist it to get all of it out. Takes time, but nothing to wipe up after.

Yes the 1 litre container with a flexi spout and a cap works well. Or a largish funnel with a spout about 1cm across at the tip.

    A pile of rags.

A stock filler which is lower than the silly EMPI one easier to get a funnel in and still have space to pour from a 1 to 3 litre container..

  7. i have a 3d printed funnel for my 2.0 that screws onto the filler neck, so no spills. makes oil changes way less messy.

I do as already suggested above ^^^ I use a one litre gearbox oil container and that’s great for filling and topping up. Two of these with their upright snouts on will fit nicely in between the battery and the rear wheel arch. Once I’ve topped up until the first container is gone then refill and swap around. Once I’m near the end of the second one, it’s time for an oil change. If I’ve been caning it (chuckle chuckle) I’ll use the oil a bit quicker and in less miles, but if I’ve been a solid and upright citizen and not gone over twenty miles an hour then the oil lasts a lot longer. The oil level and the fuel level are directly connected to the accelerator pedal it would seem.

I find I the oil level drops quite fast from the top of the mark on the dipstick but settles about half way.
Changed along with after market full flow filter when it looks black enough on the dipstick that you cant quite see the dipstick metal in the middle of the flat with the level marks on it. Turns out thats about 6000-8000 miles. Again during that time probably put a couple of litres in topping up. 37000 mile from new engine case.
