Oil filler nut and tool

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by OrangeVW, Jun 24, 2014.

  1. Hi

I need to replace my oil filler nut because the groves are worn and the gasket is leaking, what are the options instead of paying £8 for a tool to use it once?

How do you tighten it without wearing the groves off?
Also are the nuts the same for the alternator and dynamo stands?

    Thanks
    Craig

  2. I believe the nuts are the same regardless.
You MAY be able to undo it using a pair of long nose pliers or make a tool.

Unless someone ham fisted got there first for a go.
These are rubbish unless you're careful and everything is tip top:

These work every time no matter how molested the nut is:

  4. I made one using an angle grinder on an old socket but I do have lots of old sockets.

  5. Long nosed pliers worked a treat once i cleaned the groves out thanks :)
