Oil Bath Air Filter Lower Breather Hose

  1. Hi All,

Am replacing some of the vacuum, fuel line and breather hoses in the engine of my trusty '73 Bay.

The lower section of the air bath oil filter (The bit with oil in it ;) has a port which is connects a breather hose to the t-piece on the ceiling of the engine bay, but this is substantially larger than the internal 5.6mm diameter of the t-piece. I have read that this port on the air filter is around 13mm? ATM the port on the air filter has a little flanged rubber boot which reduces the diameter of the port that allows a semi-seal by actually poking in the whole of the breather hose inside this boot.

I am looking for a much better way of doing this, does anyone know what I am going on about? Is there a better way?

    Cheers,

    R

  2. Thats how they fit to them normally , do you have a pic of yours ?

  3. Sure,

You can just see it up on the top right of the pic here, but this little rubber plug bit has disintegrated and cant seem to find one for love nor money!? Plus am replacing the piece of braided breather with some R10 rubber hosing. It has been suggested to use a couple of different diameters and clamps to reduce the hose size... or find a 13mm ID to 5.6mm ID in-line reducer piece?

    Cheers,

  4. yeh you could get reducer female coupler they look like ends of gas connections , has no one on here got one ? as long as it vents into the bath ? ill see if i can find what i mean on ebay n get a link .

  6. Cheers,

I had actually just ordered the hoses and clamps from those guys so have emailed them to see if the do a reducer which will convert from 5.6mmID to 13mm ID for a nice tight fit into that port on the air filter without having to worry about it degrading again.... Odd that no such thing exists already, surely I am not the only one who would rather not just jam things in with a bit of tape for grip ;)

  7. 6mm will be ok it will be tighter

Consider a combination strain relief and grommet for an electrical cable - I have some in my electronic junk collection but they are only about 5mm ID so the hose that fits inside would be tiny.

On my setup that fitting had a nose and a metal pipe sticking out that went inside the stock 5.6mm fuel line. So a rubber bung with a metal pipe through it could also work.
