Historic carpet maker Axminster is to go into administration in a move putting 400 jobs at risk. The Devon-based company, which dates back 250 years, said the decision will provide the company and its creditors with time to explore various rescue options. Sad really people don't realise how labour intensive the work in these old carpet company's is, we have lost over 20 carpet firms in my home town, there are about 7 left and i work for what is left of Tomkinsons carpets, Axminster are super old firm i used to collect from the factory, i will be sorry to hear it go. The best of it is they will probably sell the old looms to China and we will be importing cheap crappy Axminster back off them!
Likewise! I was in one of the stores the other day everything appeared okay. Tough on the folk at the other Axminster though...another quality brand/product that could dissappear. I guess the current trend to timber floors with throw rugs hasn't helped their market.
