Oem aerial gasket

  1. Hi all.
The rubber gasket on my radio aerial is hard and cracked and I wanted to replace it to ensure it is watertight.
    Can you buy these?
I have seen some advertised but there look smaller.
Aerial looks to be quite old, possibly original, so didn't really want to replace it with an aftermarket one, unless anyone could recommend a good quality one which would be a direct replacement?
    Thx

    Unlikely to find spares.
Get 2mm rubber sheet off eBay and cut one out.

  3. You can still get the original Hirschmann antennas, I believe.

  4. Can't remember where I bought it from, but the aerial I got late last year from one of the usual suspects was rubbish and the seal was pointless!! didn't fit well at all. Might as well have just let the gaping hole open where the aerial should go. If the original can still be purchased, that would be interesting.

My aerial gasket rubber went the same way, and I totally failed to find anywhere to get a replacement that fitted the bulge mounted type.... they all seems to be the wrong angle or size. Ended up welding the hole and replacing it with a two point mounted one on the front panel.

  6. I managed to get the one from the usual suspects to fit in the original hole, took a bit of fetling, it might have been Cool Air, but I did need a complete aerial as some sod had broken mine

  7. I bet they’re a beggar to fit.

  8. I seem to recall penny washers and other tricks required to make it tighten up properly. I'll see how long it lasts.....

  9. There are plenty of high angle 58 gegree aerials on eBay & at the usual suppliers but the all look to have a flat base, whereas the panel below the windscreen is bulged, so not sure how well it would seal?...

  11. So, bought it off eBay, fitted it, or at least tried to..
The collar at the top is made if plastic, and as soon as I tried to tighten it up, it just cracked, and there is no lip on the top if the collar, so there is a gap between the top of the collar and the nut, looking from the top..absolute crap!
So, put the old one back on, which does have a part number and a vw stamp so I assume this is the OEM aerial.
Can you still but original, or original quality, aerials, or at least ones with the top collar made of metal rather than plastic!
