Recently had my steels power coated, I've been told the wheel nuts work loose because of the power coating is this true?
Do I need to grind it off behind the nuts?[IMG]

  3. yes it is possible, tightening or especially torqueing to a spec with dirt or paint under the nut can eventually loosen the nut. The paint is crushed to dust when tightened and with further flexing of the joint will allow the "dust" to fall away.

  4. Never heard of that at theory, maybe after 6 pints. Mine are power coated haven't fallen off yet, had my bay 13 years.

Having been there myself on the A1..nuts worked loose, the seats do need taking back to bare steel as the paint will crack when crushed and come away leaving loose nuts.

Looking smart, are the balance weights all on the inside? Mine arrrrr, good enough for an old van, I didn't even have the early wheels balanced and it was fine.

Not talking about grinding or anything that serious. Just a little abrasive paper just where the nut contacts the rim and would eventually rub it off anyway. I was of the opinion from others posts that you may well have torqued them when the coating was cold and hard but a few serious brake applications may warm the coating a bit and soften during braking then alas no torquey torquey on the nuts. Often pondered about the rim / hub contact areas on the opposite side of the wheel???:)

    Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,regular checks won’t hurt. :)
