a few very minor points.. head lamp aim, battery clamp, dash tell tale for turn signal ( right turn bulb holder popped out last night trying to check the fuel gauge ) and the lock washer tabs not bent over on the steering box drop arm nut ... ( I hadnt fitted the front belly pan)

    but It Passed..

    First MOT since march 1997

Bit underwhelmed to be honest. Drive to the test station confirmed for me that its really to low .. the wifes handbag would add to much weight.. so its up a touch on the rear and most likely the drop spindles will be comming off as well.. looks good but for what it is I have to concede, its not really practicle to have it low if I want to add any serious back road single track miles to it .. To be honest it only scraped twice but that was with me in it at my racing weight .. and a majorly depleted wallet..

Yup, its the start of a rebuild ... and with it being higher there will ground clearance for a subarooooooo

  5. Wheels with higher offset would probably help. I'd try some oe steels on the front first before messing around with spindles.

bought the van 8 years ago for £800 thought it was a good idea, after a complete rebuild and parts receipts for just short of £18k could say pretty much everything was done .. body paint interior full front and rear suspension etc etc .. But if you just mean suspension, the front was on transporterhaus stuff but that really required the van to be tubbed.. I was to tight to cut into the nice new front wheel tubs so sold the TH stuff and went for 3 inch drop spindles .. with a narrow beam or better offset wheels it would be fine albeit still limited for up and down travel.. at around 2 inch unloaded .. Im not keen on beam adjusters but using them in reverse to raise the front with the 3 inch drop spindles would maybe work.. bu less work putting the original spindles back on unless you get 2 inch drop spindles ?????

The rear is on adjustable spring plates ... all shox are SPAX adjustables and heavy duty anti roll bars front and rear on poly bushes..

I was messing around with th new mini 5 stud steels, they are a good fit with decent back spacing.. will drive it local to add some miles then give it some more thought before venturing further afield ...

  8. didnt you have a subaru setup to go in and then sold it on?

yep.. and sold it back to the fella I bought it from off... at the time it was even lower than it is now and the sump would have dragged along the road .. didnt want the additional work so decided to keep it all VW,, :) low and slow ... but the low is swiftly getting tiresome ... maybee im just getting old .. love the look but not cool enough to drive em like that...

Tried to tax it online but being 74 its now rent free but the V5 doesnt say so DVLA website recognised it was insured and MOTd but mentioned that it wasnt on sorn ( which I done when I changed it to my name and got the new V5.) also included the threat of a fine and pursuance of back tax .. YIKES So cancelled the enquiry and went along to the post office, Girl there was ace, no probs, explained to her the circumstances and she did the needfull with the V5 and issued a recipt for the road tax at £0.00 for 12 month and acknowledged that the V5 was sent away ...

hopefully thats another bridge thats now been crossed. Just as well it wasnt a hump back bridge though, I woulda been grounded ..

  12. Looks great , and I love the look but worry that lowering mine will cause probs when fully Loaded and camping

Well thats it up a spline on the rear and the original spindles back on... had to paint and detail them and the backplates just wouldn't be right to put them on without fussing ..lol.. going to refit the 195 65s to fill a wee bit of the wheel arch gap.. Hope to get away in it this week for a day here and there to get it run in .. Fingers crossed .. Going to have a run passed the fella I bought it from and visit the other places up here that it was registered .. It had a few owners but the van was first registered in the north east of Scotland and every owner has lived in the North east, so gonna take it back to its roots :)
