hey guys. im abit confused for some reason.. i'm starting on repairing the non sliding door sills etc on the off side of my RHD bus.. when i cut it out it looked like there was about 4 sills in there!? im replacing it all so what do i need? i have a complete oem inner sill and one of these..http://www.justkampers.com/vw-t2-ba...-sill-and-side-panel-for-vw-t2-1967-1979.html do i need anything else?
if your replacing it all then you will need an inner, middle and outer sill the link you posted is for if your big side panel is a bit rotten also.....if the big panel is fine then you only need the outer sill .....you will probably also find you will need a new outer rear arch (or at least a lower front repair panel if the rest of the rear arch is ok) as you may struggle to cut out and weld in your new inner and middle sills with the rear arch still in place. ....you will probably also need inner and outer B post repairs, possibly top hat repairs and new jacking points and out riggers .....ask me how I know go for the genuine VW inner and middle sills if you can get then as the repro ones dont seem to match the profiles of the floor and are a bit short at the rear
cheers mate, yeah ive got the rear arch off, it was rotten any way. ive got:- klokkenholm rear arch Genuine VW inner sill Genuine new front jacking point and outrigger JK Exclusive outer sill and side panel So I just need a middle sill? the top hat sections are all in good condition believe it or not, it literally just the bottom inch of the sill has rusted away so going to replace the lot. Is it possible to remove the old sill whilst leaving the rear jacking point in place? my rear one is fine and i dont want to remove it and cause myself more work/cost.
sounds like you just need the middle sill then leaving the rear jacking point in place is probably d-oable might be a bit of a fiddle getting the old sill off and the new one one, I'm all for saving good metal .......give it a go, if it proves too hard ......chop it off
