I get into first no problem and if I’m gentle into 2nd on the way up, but can’t use 2nd on the way down often and I wouldn’t go into first from 3rd the noise wouldn’t be right....So I don’t do a lot of engine braking. I’ve seen that part in a breakdown drawing somewhere, I’ll have a look on the van for wear. Thanks
My trick for 2nd going down from 3rd - is to go across and then part way up to 1st but then drop into 2nd - it just gives that little bit of extra help to find it.
Definitely worth checking because when I first got the van I was literally in a cold sweat driving it; never knowing if i’d find any gear. I’ve read a lot about the various ‘techniques’ folk use to find gears and how shifting down is even more tricky. Being completely honest, since my mechanics fitted that part (they didn’t say they did anything else) I now change gear as if i’m driving a car!
