Hello New member from kent uk. I have a 1974 1800cc bay. I have had the bus for roughly 6 months, it's my first bay but so far so good. Lots of maintenance work and a bit of superficial work completed so far. Apparently the bus used to transport customers between Hollywood hotels, this seems to be backed up by the paperwork I have.
Thanks Trying to get it back on the road at the mo. I need some rare push rod tubes but can't seem to get hold of them. Other than that the bus is all good.
Hello mate, nice looking bus. Why do you need rare pushrod tubes? Mines a 74 with an 1800 engine and I just fit common tubes in mine. I know they're common because of all the swearing when I fitted them.
Hello sandybay, thanks. It seems like someone has put different heads on. The normal push rod tubes definitely won't fit. When I took the old ones out, someone had ground the collars to the old push rod tubes down, they obviously couldn't find the correct ones either. After a bit of research, the head I have is from that rare year, VW heritage confirmed this after taking the head serial number down. Very frustrating to say the least, can't drive it until I manage to track some down.
Hello all, lots from kent which is nice. I'm near Rochester. With regards to my push rod tube issue, new heads may have to be an option but I hope not.
theres a guy on the A2 near Rainham could machine your heads for you, if you want his number let me know and I will pass it on to you
I have a contact who's on the case and I should know by tomorrow. If no luck then I'll definitely take the number, thanks.
May also be another option. To be honest it's a bit of a nightmare, something so simple preventing me from driving it at the mo.
