  1. hi can anyone tell me if these drums and shoes are ok[IMG][IMG]
handbrake had jammed other day couldnt get drum off and found marks on inside, they are quite new 500mls ish but don't look bedded in
are they still ok to go back and should i use copper ease on brake parts to lubricate handbrake arm

  2. Look ok to me. If the drums aren't scored, give the faces a clean up with fine emery cloth or grey Scotchbrite. Take the shoes off and give 'em a light filing to get the stains off.

If you clean the muck out, they won't stick.

Lube everything with Copaslip when you reassemble, especially the star adjusters.

    Sorted!

  3. cheers snotty
will do. looks like water getting in and then its sat and not been used for aweek or so

  4. Week or so should be fine. My h/b comes off even if the van's left for a month. If they haven't been cleaned up for a good while, the brake dust & crap can make them stick.

Have you got the rubber bungs to go in the backplate?

  5. As above but might be worth checking the shoes move correctly while the drum is off and the hand brake fully releases under it's own steam (i.e. the shoes aren't being held out by resistance in the cable etc.)

Used to find it happened more often than not following a drive in the rain as it encouraged the braking surface of the drum to rust sooner and stick it to the shoes

If you don't use it for long periods, is it possible / safe to leave the bus in gear with the handbrake off and / or wheels chocked to prevent it happening again as there's nothing worse than expectantly jumping in your bus, the engine starting (bonus) then not being able to go anywhere! (happened with our T25 - started the engine, loaded her up and couldn't get her in gear as the clutch slave cylinder had packed up!)
