New Cylinder Head?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by StevieJD, Mar 1, 2014.

  1. My van has had a oil leak which has progressively got worse over the last few month. It's a Type 4 engine with hydraulic lifters. I replaced the RHS pushrod seals a couple of weeks ago and this morning went to do the LHS. Rocker cover was difficult to get off and there was a lot of sealant around it. Managed to prise it off to find this 'repair'

Pushrods tubes were also covered in sealant, so a previous owner has bodged this to stop oil leaking.
My thoughts are a new cylinder is needed . And that's going to be expensive. Any advice from engine gurus welcome.
If it is a new cylinder head, anyone any idea of how much it would cost? It's not something I'd want to take on so would be looking for it to go to a mechanic/garage.

New head is £300 ish, but that's an easy repair , get it welded and file it flat, no more than £100 maybe only £20-30

  3. Get it TIG welded up , send it to me , if it's repairable then I can weld it .........
