Couple of question for those who might know these things... First one is - my engine is a stock (as far as I know) 1800 originally fitted out with fuel injection and cat convertor as it's a Californian import - but has been set up with a pair of Dell'Ortos (which run pretty well). Would the original model have had a CHT sender anywhere? I've read some stuff on the internet that suggests it would have done, but I can't see anywhere obvious as a candidate. Second is - any recommendations on an original-ish looking gauge as the VDO ones don't seem to be available any longer? As ever - thanks for the great advice!
If it was originally fuel-injected, it likely have had a temperature sensor screwed into one of the cylinder heads for the injection controller. But that isn't the same as the CHT sensors/gauges that folk fit. I'd start with an oil temp gauge.
Snotty - thanks for the recommendation - I suspect I might end up fitting both! Any thoughts on the best solution for the oil temperature sender - I've seen some that are combined with the dipstick?
The dipstick sender works fine in a type 1 in my experience. Sure other folk will comment on fitting alternatives on a type 4.
