Golf diesels are really good on economy, I had a Gt TDi a few years ago, it ran spot on & regularly did 60+ mpg

  7. Ooohhh golf diesel what year? Just stay away from the sdi's as they are sooooo gutless!!! :)

You do need a turbo one...
I test drove a non-turbo and as Moley says it was el crappo.

  9. What about a nice beetle I know a mate selling one 2ltr auto only 2k :D hahahaha

A few mates and I ordered golfs from work at the same time.
I had the 1.8 GTi Turbo
    Another had the 1.9 GTTDi
    Another had the 1.9 SDi

The first 2 were great, the GTTDi was as quick as the GTi, and the SDi was slow as hell.

  11. I had a GTTDI golf and I loved it! In fact I am on the look out for another one :D The only problem with the gti's was they chew up coil packs and they have a heavy drinking problem! :) This was mine still miss it now :(

I've dropped £100 off the price as looking at px offers it's maybe a bit optimistic, will negotiate on price though, golf was nice but offer on px wasn't, if no joy in a week or so i'll ebay it.

Yep, mine was thirsty compared to the diesel but it sounded a lot better!

That's why the diesel turbo's are a bit steep second hand compared to petrol - same (ish) performance, cheap on fuel. They don't sound great but that's a luxury I can live without. I got 70mpg to work and back (25 miles) yesterday. Sitting at 80 on the M'way it'll do 50-55mpg, at 70 it'll do 60+.

im not fussed if a non turbo is slow or noisy the turbo ones have stellar miles or are shoddy for my price, i can find a decent non turbo for my money.
