There is a metal bar underneath the handles that brace the pop top together and the handles screw into that,I put the wood battens on as I didn't like just the vynl roof and it matches my interior
What did you use to fix the angle to the van. Is it riveted or bolted? Also the horizontal bar going across the rear of the van, is that part of it or is that your roof hinge?
I used self tapping screws into the van and pop top bars, thinking about it now I might change it to bolts,I will see how the screws go,the other part is the roof hinge
I believe the original beds were just self tapered in so in truth they will likely be fine. Will take a lot of weight to shear those screws especially when you think how much actual weight you have spread out over the whole lot.
Never needed to use my bed boards but they sit on a wee shelfy bit and cushions go on top of the boards. I've only got 12mm leisure ply at the moment which matches the interior but of I was using it as a bed I reckon I'd need to strengthen them with bed slats or something. I'll take a pic next time I'm out. I have LED lights running along the shelfy bit just now. I guess I'll have to reposition them if I use the bed boards to sleep in the penthouse. Mines an Aussie sopru pop top.
Took me a while to think about what to do,I purchased a sheet of 18 MM ply bnq cut it to my sizes for free and the angle iron was the correct length so didn't need to cut that can't remember the price might of been £60 kids used there 2 camping mats for cushion, but now I have got a mattress topper £16 pound stretcher
