  1. Coz its cold and rubbish we've started planning and booking next years trip to Europe. My boss has agreed I can take three weeks in one hit so we've got a lot planned. Have booked the outbound and return euro tunnel tickets and booked 10 nights at this place.

Camping Fornella on the shores of Lake Garda in Italia. We got one of only 18 lake front pitches as they only opened booking for 2013 2 weeks ago. Now were else shall we go for the other 11 nights? Definitely planning on going back into Southern Germany as last year as amazing.

    Any other views people?

do the millau viaduct, its on my to do list!s

  3. Thats a lovely drive down to Lake Garda if you dont use the toll roads, we did it a few years back and really enjoyed the travelling. Lake Garda was really nice we then went on to Milan and from there to Allessio on the coast (nice place as well)and you get to drive through ****** :0

  4. I meant to say w a n k

  5. ive booked mine too, 16 days in France staying in two different Gites around Brittany, yea I know not that far but the weather is usually better than this country. Then ending up at our friends in Le Mans for a few nights.
Got to admit I was a bit surprised how Busy Brittany Ferries have been for next summers booking.

  6. I'm not surprised the ferries are filling up. Summer was a total washout and the pound is strong against the euro so heading south into France for better weather makes a lot of sense. Will look up the suggestions. Was originally thinking of heading east to one of the sites on the coast by Venice but have decided we might sneak into Austria on the way to Germany instead. Much to ponder.
    Cheers,
    Jon

  7. Italy lakes is one off the places i would love to drive too.
The 800 mile drive puts me off.

Venice is a great place to visit. go off the beaten track there and you will find some great sites. We came across the women's prison there while wondering around.

  8. We drive to lake Garda this year. It was fantastic place to have a fantastic time I know we did, Steve,

  9. The 800 miles is not bad if you break it up a bit. We'll probably overnight near Langres and then have 4 nights near Geneva - possibly lake annecy. Then onto lake garda so no more than 300 mles in any one go.

Looked up the millau viaduct. Looks amazing but hundreds of miles in the opposite direction to where we are headed so will have to do that some other time.

  10. Further developments. We have now sorted a complete route and booked all campsites plus one of the overnight hotel stops. The route now looks like this:

We arrive in France around 10:00am then drive to Langres for an overnight in a Logis. Following that we head to Annecy where we have a campsite overlooking the lake for 4 nights. Hopefully we will get a view like this:

Then we drive across to Lake Garda where we have 10 nights on the lake with a lakefront pitch. After that then its up into Germany via Austria for an overnight near Ulm. Then up to Koblenz where we are camping on the Mosel river for 5 nights.

Finally we're across to Gent for a night then towards Calis for the train home.

It all came together pretty easily in the end with the biggest challenge being campsites don't seem to want to take reservations in high season, even if you offer to pay 100% upfront.

    Roll on July!!

  11. Wow - that's incredibly organised!

  12. That is a cool trip. Take loads of pics and keep us updated. Wild love to do this

  13. We came back from lake Garda last year a similar route but from Innsbruck we went to Fussen to visit Ludwicks castles then up to Warsburg along the Romantic Strada,
This was a lovely part of Germany to visit,
    Steve,

  14. Drove a similar route but carried on to Rijeka (Croatia) last year, also spent some time on the beach at Rimini. Both 30 degrees plus and really, really friendly.
Croatia is cheap(ish) as well and they'll accept Euros as well as the local Kuna.
Seriously considering doing something similar this year in the Bus, already have a road trip to Bologna planned but that's in a mate's RV. ;D

  15. Looks a great trip - we are planning on doing something very similar ourselves this year - Stig has to be done

Although we aren't as organised as you and don't plan on booking campsites etc, if we make plans like that its bound to go wrong :'( so we are probably just going to take pot luck :)

What time of year you going?

    Good luck!

  16. We leave late July and return about three weeks later. Should be nice and toastie down in Italy then. We booked the campsites mainly to ensure we got to where we want to go but also because with kids in tow I don't want to be driving around and around finding somewhere to stay after driving all day!!

  17. That looks like the start of three great weeks, keep us posted O0

  18.
  19.
  20. We only booked the week in Garda the rest we played by ear using a German book called the Bord Atlas which has 15000 stop over places in Germany and a separate book with stop over places in Europe ,
We went for the same 3 weeks it hit 38 in Switzerland and over 40 in Italy,
Have good time even 3 weeks will go far to quick to fit every thing in and take notes of the places you see on the trip to go back another time,
    Steve,
