  1. Why are there lots of VW T5's on Irish number plates for sale? Usually on fleabay?
Is there some scam I am missing or are they super cheap over there? Even though they are offered for sale here?:hattip:

  3. Not sure about now but Eire used to have a 25% new car tax on top of 22% VAT.
I bought a Seat Toledo some years ago which would have been £15k in UK for £9k in Dublin, I then "exported" it to the North, paid just UK Vat and all was well.

if you can't be arsed to read the whole forum thread, this post seems to be the main one.
I bought a 54 plate T5 over 4 weeks ago, to date I am no further forward in getting it on the road. It would appear that the people who should know what's required don't, mainly DVLA, VOSA and Volkswagen Ireland.

So here are the facts that you should know before purchase.

1 The old thing of paying an additional £55 with your tax is no longer.

2 You will require a certificate of conformity if the vehicle was built from 2009 on, vehicles built before 2009 before will need a VOSA inspection at £199 as the Certificate is no longer available from Volkswagen for vehicles before 2009. If the vehicle is older than ten years then it would appear that none of the above apply and the process is much more straight forward.

If your van falls between these dates you may require both as mentioned above as you will require information on the van to complete the VOSA Application, although Volkswagen can no longer issue a certificate they will provide you with the info in order that you can complete the VOSA application for a cost of 100 Euros of course.

If you need to apply to VW Ireland they will only accept a bankers draft in Euros, please don't waste your time asking them to accept a personal cheque, cash or any other form of payment as the answer will be no, believe me I tried them all. Next problem is to get your bank to issue a draft in Euros, I spent two days trying without success.

    3. If you require the VOSA inspection you need to go to the GOV.UK website, in the search box put IVA1C, download the document complete and send to them, this will take around a week or so to process then a further 4 weeks or so to arrange the inspection.

    4. Please keep in mind that I am discussing the process for a Panel Van, there are separate rules for passenger carrying vehicles that you will need to investigate on your own.

  13. Thanks for the info - wow no wonder they are still on Irish plates in this country - probably leave all the faff to you to sort (and cost !) Also explains why these car supermarkets get their cars from Ireland and offer them a bit cheaper here (but no doubt make an absolute killing themselves?

This one caught my eye but no mention of mileage however judging by the drivers seat base it cant be 200,000 miles as its not worn on the edge like normal!
