I came across these on iplayer I think whilst looking for something else. 3 episodes filmed in 1972. I’ve watched two far and they’re great. He had visions for places, and how towns could be developed using the old buildings and canals etc. I loved them so much that I thought I may write to the main man, Ian Nairn, sadly he died aged 52 in the 80’s of alcohol related illnesses. I’ve attached his Wikipedia page, I want to watch more of his programmes. Has anyone else watched them? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Nairn
Funny I just watched a documentary he made in Newcastle. Found it by chance on youtube. Thought it was very interesting as he was on the road where I worked in the 80s and am working now
I love those progs. His books are worth a read as well. I’ve got a couple. He wrote the West Sussex(where I live) section of the Pevsner Architectural Guides and a really good guidebook for London.
Very interesting M.C. Pevsner who is mentioned ...was also responsible for taking countless photographs of stately homes prior to them being demolished .
For those who haven't watched them https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p01q1km2/nairn-across-britain There are 3 episodes. I remember watching them when I was off work recovering from my Hernia op.
I got the programme okay but it failed to impress me I’m afraid. MC usually points us in the right direction but not for me this time sadly!
