I would really like it to glide smoothly and quieter but have no idea where to start. I have cleaned the runners and oiled the rear hinge and roller yet it is still carp. Any tips?

  4. Had a bash at this on my first resto but must admit I didn't spend all that much time on it. Now I'm doing a proper resto I'm going to have a better look at it. I think that using some good quality sound deadening on the door and side panel (and any other panel that your budget will stretch to) will be the biggest gain. I have a friend at Oxford Car Audio who suggested some Hood Insulation sheets (used in engine bays and quite thick I believe). Ultimately adjusting the latches/keeps and oiling etc will only go so far, it's a bloody old door! I did get mine to shut very well and didn't need that much of a shove either, but was still loud. Other than that, buy a T5 I suppose:)

Mine is too - the lower "shelf" bit is worn and the bracket for the roller catches on it.

As zed says check the bottom track, they rot and wear and become uneven causing uneven door sliding

  9. my link gone funny. go on samba and search thread title sliding door assembly i think it is

  10. U have closed mine malc spent a week on it during the resto bottom track was replaced and new bottom roller was a right git to get right !!

  11. its stiff  have you got a video of it gliding tooo_O

  12. Change that cheap seal Malc, that'll help.
    Also:-
    • Don't lock your keys inside.
    • Make sure the roof is up.
    • Buy some grease.
    • Stop locking @Rickyetta Roo in there!

yes sort it out, it's like thunder when you get up in the night, to be honest that's why i've started camping in different counties to you - and i can still hear it.

Thank you all - even the the t5 suggestions. Bottom rail is new, it could do with some glue on the inner frame to skin as the bottom half has been replaced that would help the noise ( the weld glue stuff) the runners and hinge are probably in need of tlc so I best follow the link to the guy on the samba that @vanorak put up the other day and maybe it will suggest I buy those bits from JK that Rich linked up to. I will have a go at the weekend cheers all.

I will do Dale - I think that bit is ok tbh. I wondered if anyone had changed the rollers like the ones @redarmy linked to and what difference it had made.
